Hi,
My name is Mouna Ben Amara. I am from Tunisia. I am a 4th year Medical student and I would like to ask about the possibility to persue my undergraduate studies abroad.
First I would like to tell you about the system in my country because Medical studies have recently known some changes. It now consists of 2 years of general courses like Biochemistry, Biophysics, physiology and semiology.. followed by 3 years of medical studies of different specialties and clinical trainings in those specialties. At the end of the fifth year students have 3 months to prepare for the specialty exam. After taking the exam all students have their sixth year as interns in different departments. During the 6th year : internship year , students receive their results for the specialty exam. Only 30 percent will get the opportunity of choosing a specialty and becoming residents for the next 4 or 5 years. As for those who did not make it in the top 30 percent and for those who do not desire to become specialists they study family medicine which is a new specialty in Tunisia.
The problem is that in my country , the first diploma the medical student receives is his PHD. They can give us certificates for the courses we took and passed but not a diploma.
I would like to know if it is possible for me to apply after my fifth year if so what are the universities that offer scholarships and if there is a possibility of course equivalency for the courses I already took here.
Thank you
