Hong Kong joins the UK and the US this year in having more than one institution in the top 10 for education & training. As well as the University of Hong Kong (HKU), a non-mover in seventh place, The Education University of Hong Kong has climbed four places to ninth.

You have to go as far down the ranking as 21st to find a university from a country where English isn’t an official language (Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, which has climbed eight places this year). Over half of the universities ranked come from just three countries: Australia, the UK and the US.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject are based upon academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact (click here to read the full methodology).
