University of Pittsburgh remains the most likely place in the world for the next Socrates or Nietzsche to rear their head, while two other American universities move up the ranking to second and third place. Beyond New York University (NYU) and Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, Newark, there are eight other American universities in the top 20.

Outside of the US, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München in Germany has moved up two places to 10th this year, while the Australian National University (ANU) is the highest-ranked Australian university in 20th.
