If you are passionate about creating the digital solutions of the future and are fascinated by how technology and design merge to make a difference in people's lives, then IT Product Development is just the thing for you.
What is IT Product Development?
IT Product Development combines skills from software development with user-centred methods to create physical IT products for our everyday life, e.g. smart watches and glasses, car interiors, medical devices or climate control in buildings, etc.
At the studio, you learn about design, modeling and problem solving in order to construct and program physical (smart) IT products with integrated software and new interaction techniques from scratch. You also learn basic computer science methods such as software development, algorithms, programming and data analysis. Programming experience is not a requirement to start. Through the division into teams, we ensure that you learn this central discipline from scratch, regardless of your starting level.
In addition to the technical skills, you gain practical and theoretical experience in designing products in collaboration with users, including user analysis, mock-up and prototyping methods. You also learn how to interact with sensors (e.g. light, sound, motion) and actuators (e.g. sound, light, stepper motors). You will also become familiar with computer architecture, cyber security, Internet of Things (IoT), Augmented Reality, 3D modeling and printing, etc.
Why study IT Product Development?
At IT Product Development you will experience how creativity and logic go hand in hand when you translate your ideas into physical prototypes. The course will enable you to think creatively, analytically and critically. You learn design thinking and breaking down large problems into smaller, manageable parts, and then applying logical and creative thinking to solve them. Among other things, you can help create solutions for smart home technology, health technology, climate and energy technology, learning technologies, tools for online collaboration, or digital installations for the experience and entertainment industry.
At the Department of Computer Science, you will be taught by internationally leading researchers in their research areas. The institute is ranked as one of the 100 best in the world, and the institute's researchers have invented many of the computer science methods and theories that are used all over the world today.
If you think it sounds exciting to help shape the smart IT products of the future, then this is where you belong! We will probably teach you everything you need to design and develop new, innovative digital and physical products.
