The Catholic Studies program will provide you with a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Catholic contribution to society. Explore Roman Catholicism as a religious and cultural reality that expresses and motivates multiple forms of human expression. Work with faculty members from a number of DePaul's colleges and departments, including anthropology, English, philosophy, religious studies and the College of Education. With flexibility in course selection, you will explore multiple subject areas and perspectives. Chicago has one of the largest Catholic populations in the United States, with a rich theological, pastoral, ethnic, architectural, artistic and musical heritage for you to experience first-hand. Learning Outcomes Students will be able to: Explain how Catholics have reflected at once critically and faithfully about God, the natural world, society, and the Church, and how Catholics have sought to integrate these reflections into their lives. Interpret in their writing and in their speaking history, texts, and social realities. Use these interpretations to engage new situations in personal, local, and global contexts. Explain in culturation and the importance of cultural memory, i.e., how Catholicism takes root in different places and discourses, based upon specific examples in history, literature, and contemporary practice. Understand and explain on their terms how faith and reason are integrated in the Catholic tradition and how a faith grounded in revelation and the encounter with the person of Christ can be deepened through study. Career Options: Social justice advocacy, Journalism, Ministry work and leadership, Education, Nonprofit work.
