As an engineering discipline, Mechatronics is the synergistic combination of mechanical, electronic, control and computer engineering. The key feature is the integration of these areas during the design process.  The Mechatronic Control Engineering specialisation covers the fundamental scientific principles and technologies used in the design of modern computer-controlled machines and processes, and it puts special focus on the synergies in the design process. Today, the technical background necessary for a mechatronic engineer to design an automated machine, component, or process is very different from what it was thirty years ago. The underlying difference is the availability of embedded computers used to control such machines. Previously, much functionality was placed in mechanics, using complicated linkages and cams to coordinate motion, but today functionality has shifted to electronics controlling small actuators such as car engines that today are

More programs from the university

Aalborg University offers interdisciplinary studies where bachelor courses (basic study programmes) are followed by masters and Ph.D. courses (subsequent specialisation). The university offers 10 different undergraduate programmes in English across five faculties:

  • The Faculty of Humanities
  • The Technical Faculty of IT and Design
  • The Faculty of Social Sciences
  • The Faculty of Engineering and Science
  • The Faculty of Medicine

Each of the five faculties has its own schools with full time bachelor education spanning over three years and designed to prepare students for master and Ph.D. education at a high academic and international level. Since the Ph.D. programmes are focussed on training researchers, students are researching independently and being actively involved in Aalborg’s research community.

All study programmes at AAU are based on a unique model of teaching and learning: the problem based and project organized model based on real life challanges, also referred to as "The PBL Model" and "The Aalborg Model". This model has become both nationally and internationally recognized as an advanced and efficient learning model, and ot is a trademark for Aalborg University.

Aalborg University is among the world's leading universities regarding research within health technology, wireless communication, energy, computer science, innovation economics, and comparative welfare studies.

More than 20.000 students are enrolled at Aalborg University, and approximately 10% of those are international students from countries all over the world. The university employs approximately 2.000 faculty staff and approximately 1.400 administrative/technical staff.

The schools and undergraduate programmes in English are available below. For a complete list of undergraduate programmes, the Danish ones included, visit this link.
