The BA/B.Sc. in Literature programme is designed to engage with poetry, prose, drama, photo essay, manga, and various alternative forms of text. The curriculum engages with questions of literary production, textual tradition, and critical theory. It seeks to nurture close textual reading, critical thinking, and academic writing among students. Along with a range of core papers directed towards an understanding of the history of literature(s) in English (or translated) students can choose from a pool of fascinating electives to graduate in their choice of specialization.
The Literature Specialization program recognizes that language and ‘texts’ may operate within a discriminative and divisive worldview. Hence, this program seeks to direct the course of literary learning towards addressing socio-political, historical, cultural, and environmental concerns to foster a more inclusive, just, and sustainable future. The BA/B.Sc. in Literature program works in close tandem with the Writing Praxis Lab to train students in creative and incisive writing. The larger aim is to shape students who can think critically and creatively about real-world challenges by engaging with the tensions, conflicts, and ideologies of textual representation.
At the School of Liberal Studies, we are devoted to an interdisciplinary approach to learning. Film screenings-cum-readings, research seminars by faculty, lecture series and master classes by globally renowned academicians, workshops and conferences are directed towards that very purpose.
For the holistic development of students, we also encourage students to engage with and participate in various interdisciplinary and extracurricular opportunities on campus.
