Deaf and deaf-blind interpreting

This professional technological level program, offered by the School of Language Sciences with the participation of the School of Human Rehabilitation of the Faculty of Health, is the first of its kind in the country and seeks to fill the existing gap in the training of interpreters for deaf and guide-interpreters for the deaf-blind. It is aimed at practicing non-qualified interpreters and people preferably with a good command of Colombian Sign Language (LSC) and oral Spanish, who are interested in training as interpreters and interpreter-guides, and contributing to the inclusion of deaf and deaf-blind people. in Colombian society.
OBJECTIVES
Overall objective
Train technologists in interpreting in Colombian and Spanish sign language, for the deaf and deafblind, to guarantee greater and better coverage of the intercommunication needs of this minority sector of the population with the hearing majority society, thus enabling true inclusion in life civil. 
Specific objective

• Enable students to develop advanced language and communication skills in the LSC.
• Know in depth and extension the structural and discursive aspects of the LSC and its cohabitation with Spanish.
• Allow deepening the knowledge of the sociocultural aspects of the deaf and deafblind community, and their communication needs with the hearing society, in which the deaf and deafblind are immersed.
• Develop theoretical-practical knowledge about interpreting between two languages ​​in general, and between LSC and Spanish in particular, in general and specific areas of the civil life of deaf subjects.
• Know precisely the communicative systems privileged by the group of deafblind people and the specificities of the guide-interpreter for deafblind people.
