The Doctorate in Sociology at Universidad del Valle is presented as a doctoral program capable of:
  • To offer sociologists and other social scientists, such as anthropologists, political scientists, geographers, historians and economists, among others, high training as researchers in different fields of sociology.
  • Use the different conceptual and methodological approaches offered by sociology and other social sciences to carry out frontier, problem-focused research in their respective disciplines.
  • Interact creatively with other fields of scientific and social knowledge, and respond not only to the national and regional needs of sociology, but also to other reflections in the fields of culture, history, demography, ethnicity, race, kinship , social movements, collective action, violence and migration, which will shed light to understand and interpret the great problems of the country, the region and Colombian and Latin American social sciences.
  • Train doctors who are characterized by their intellectual autonomy, discipline in academic and intellectual work, in an overall vision and a critical, open and flexible attitude towards an object of knowledge.
